I have no words!!!
I wonder... will any of the so called "new".... "fresh".... young MPs who so wanted the OLD guys out of government REFUSE to take up cabinet appointments IF appointed???
let ODM lead by an example...let the turn down 10 appointments....if not i agree all are thieves and the haki yetu anthem was one of Raila campaign antics that we fell for. Raila should stop enjoying luxurious treatment even before he officially becomes a prime minister
In as much as this is outrageous, what options did ODM have? I am blaming this on Kibaki 100%. He is first and foremost the reason this country nearly collapsed few months ago. Secondly, the fact that he is held hostage by his cabinet because of his own insecurity, his personal problems have now become the problems of 34 million Kenyans. In any case, the accord says ODM is entitled to 50% of government and Kibaki is the same person who made ODM suggest 34 members because he had prematurely and cheekily appointed 17 in January in order to secure himself. I personally doubt this government, if we choose to call it that, will last beyond 1 year.
Turning down the appointments as some have suggested will only make matters worse. Thsi country needs healing (hoever expensive) anfd this country certainly needs equity in division of political and economic power. The last 40 years have been a disaster for the marginalised and discriminated communities of Kenya. If it means 40 ministers to change all that, SO BE IT. Democracy has never been cheaper. Would you rather lives were needlessly lost and citizens displaced?
I am just beginning to learn about Kenya being an outsider. I still know nothing but not as little as before!
Maybe I'm just too cynical now to have any faith in any politicians anywhere but for them to do this coalition without this kind of bloat doesn't seem probable.
Perhaps, if I can muster some optimism, an evolution towards a better way will begin through this. But if some stability can be achieved through this after the horror and displacement, then it might be a necessary evil (for now?)
